Snowman in the snow. The first snow globe seems to have come from France during the early 19th century. They were spotted at the Paris Universal Expo of 1878 and have been selling ever since. They have been called “waterglobe,” “snowstorm,” and “snowdome,” but have become popular Christmas decorations; for some families, it’s a Christmas tradition. Today’s snow globes might include “music boxes, moving parts, internal lights, and even electric motors that make the ‘snow’ move so that it is no longer necessary to shake the globe.” Photo #2 by Acid Pix

Macro Santa. The photographer wrote, “Photographing a snow globe was harder than I thought. It reflects everything. Worse yet, you have to shake it up and the effect only lasts for a few seconds. I used the 10 sec timer, shook it during the countdown, then placed it just before the shutter opened.” Photo #13 by LenDog64

Are you a Scrooge and hate the holidays? Well here you go, death of a snow globe. The photographer wrote, “A 7.62mm bullet fired by a VZ-58 rifle tumbles through a piece of thriftstore clutter.” Or as Dr. Seuss said in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, “It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags!”…Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! “Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more!” Photo #40 by Jasper Nance
